Ernesto Castillo Páez, estudiante de sociología de la PUCP de 22 años, fue detenido el 21 de octubre de 1991 por la Policía Nacional del Perú, ese día su hermana Mónica cumplió 18 años. Nunca más lo volvieron a ver.
Los policías que lo detuvieron Juan Carlos Mejía León, Juan Aragón Guibovich, Carlos De Paz Briones y Manuel Arotuma Valdivia fueron condenados en el 2006 (15 años después) por su desaparición forzada. Su sentencia los obliga a lo más importante: decir dónde está Ernesto. Hasta ahora no lo dicen. Se niegan a contar la verdad y se burlan de la justicia.
Ernesto sigue desaparecido. Sus padres Carmen Rosa y Cronwell, su hermana y su familia lo siguen buscando.
La PUCP
Así como el caso de Ernesto, la violencia del conflicto armado también costó la vida o parte de esta a muchos estudiantes: una estudiante de economía perdió un brazo por un coche bomba frente a un ministerio, hubo dos muertos de la facultad de sociales por el crimen de la calle Tarata, asesinaron a un estudiante, Abel Malpartida Páez.
Una amiga que estudió en esos años, me cuenta que cuando desaparecieron a Ernesto, un grupo de estudiantes levantó la voz para denunciar el crimen. Trataron de hacer una performance para sensibilizar a la "comunidad PUCP" sobre la desaparición de Ernesto, pero a las autoridades no les gustó nada el asunto.
No querían meterse. Había mucho temor a encarar las detenciones, las desapariciones y todas las violaciones a los derechos humanos, a pesar de que estos crímenes se estaban dando en el país y también se estaban perpetrando contra estudiantes de esta universidad.
Yo ingresé el 94, y lo que pude sentir fue una universidad en la que casi no se hablaba de lo que estaba pasando en el país. Es recién en 1997 que se da un quiebre y cada vez se empieza a hablar más. Con el inicio de las marchas universitarias, el nombre de Ernesto se convirtió en una demanda de justicia, no solo para con él, sino también para pedir explicaciones, para que nos digan qué estaba pasando en el país y para no contentarnos con la verdad oficial, que por tanto tiempo nos trataron de imponer.
Esta demanda de justicia y de verdad fue de los estudiantes. Las autoridades universitarias no dijeron mucho. Aún recuerdo a Marcial Rubio en mi clase magistral de derecho (en realidad es un charla de despedida de algún profesor, que como todo en derecho tiene un nombre rimbombante), decir que en todos estos años de violencia, la universidad había sido una isla.
La búsqueda debe ser de todos
Si de algo puede haber servido todo este morbo y carroña periodística de los últimos meses, sobre la desaparición del estudiante de la universidad agraria, Ciro Castillo; es para enrostrarnos en la cara la angustia y desesperación que vivieron sus padres y hermanos por 6 meses.
Esa misma angustia la siguen viviendo Carmen Rosa y Cronwell hace 20 años, 240 meses, una vida de preguntarse, de exigir y llorar, de armarse de valor cada día para seguir en la búsqueda. Aún no encuentran a su hijo.
El caso de Ernesto es uno entre más de quince mil personas desaparecidas en el conflicto armado interno. Quince mil familias que por años interminables siguen buscando saber dónde están sus seres queridos. La angustia es inmensa ¿Cómo podremos sanar como sociedad si seguimos con una carga tan grande?
La familia de Ernesto no está sola en esta incansable búsqueda, hay muchos amigos, organizaciones de estudiantes e instituciones que han hecho suya esta demanda. Sin embargo, falta una voz, y es la de la universidad en la que estudió.
La PUCP, que en los últimos tiempos ha sufrido agresiones por parte sectores ligados a la dictadura de Fujimori, levantó la bandera de la autonomía universitaria y del respeto a la libertad y los derechos humanos. Pero con respecto a la desaparición de Ernesto Castillo, sigue callando.
Es el momento de dejar el silencio. Si la universidad quiere defender de verdad los valores de los que tanto habla, tiene que empezar por defenderlos en casa. Así sea 20 años después.
No pueden seguir dejando solos a la familia de Ernesto. Exigir información al Ministerio del Interior y al gobierno sobre dónde está el cuerpo de Ernesto, también es su obligación. ¿Lo harán en algún momento o seguirán callando como hasta ahora?
